Regie tips - Looking for an apartment long-term but my work contract runs out in October

Hello All,

I've been unsuccessfully trying to search the forums to see if this question was already asked, so please forgive me if this info is already here somewhere.

I am an American working at an NGO in Geneva and looking for an apartment.  I have a B permit, but for the first year of my job (starting in October 2012), my office gave me a fixed-term contract, which will end in October 2013.  I have a nice letter from my boss recommending me as a good candidate and saying that when my current contract is up they want to offer me a CDI.

I started looking for apartments at the beginning of march and I've applied for several in my price range (based on my salary being at least 3 times the rent)  and been rejected.  I have a feeling it is because my contract will be up in October.  Does anyone have experience with this?  Will it be impossible for me to get a lease past October until I get a new contract?

Any information or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Thanks, BounciBaller!  I know that 2 months isn't very long to be looking.  I was more wondering if I should wait to get my new contract because it will be completely impossible to be approved by a regie until I have something more permanent, or if there is a chance so I should keep up my visiting and applying to apartments anyway.

Good luck with the job hunt!  That's not an easy process or short process either --  took me a year and I know I am really luck to have found something.

Hi Laura, I went through the same,  maybe you can contact a girl who helped me and my husband to get a really nice apartment. Her name is Veronica, she is very kind and she has a lot of contacts in the agencies, you should call her and arrange something. Her cellphone is 079 2137032.

I hope she can help you as well.

I think when you have such an issue you should get an agent to help. I have a similar problem mine is more with my permit not being long enough but it is renewable but it is just not easy. Thanks Juliana I was actually going to post asking for someone who can help with the househunt.
