Registering a car in Switzerland

My car is still on a UK registration, I think I need to change it within 12 months of arrival, which will be soon!

Does anyone know the procedure for changing it to a Swiss registration? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi,

I dont know all about this as I haven't done it. Probably you can find information here (if you speak French) Office des automobiles

Your car will have to go through a technical check. I advice you to go to a garage 1st. They know whats needed to have your car pass this technical check. You can also go directly for the technical check, but if your car doesnt go though the test, you will have to pay for the test twice and still go to a garage.

Above is the link for the form for what you need to do if you have imported your vehicle... there are quite a few documents you will need... if you need assistance with understanding the document, send me a private message...

I did this last year - and it can be a frustration. I imported both a scooter and a left-hand drive car from the UK. Surprisingly, the scooter was more hassle (6 trips to the Bureau) - but maybe that was because i dealt with the scooter before the car - and was a little more prepared 2nd time around.  The link covers everything you need, but you will need an Original european certifciate of conformity, as well a Swiss emissions test. You have to make appointments - and sometimes have to wait a month, make sure you have ALL the paperwork, try to be positive (treat it as a Free French Lesson). Good luck - PM me if you need help.
