Just be sure the GPS you rent or borrow has Croatia. We just drove to Slovenia and Croatia and discovered that our TomTom did not have Eastern Europe at all. Have fun!

And don't forget to get a good old paper map. GPS make people lazy and dumb...

You can also print a very detailed map from the Michelin website and do different variations, ie motorway, fastest, scenic, avoiding tolls, etc.  The problem with the GPS on such a long trip is that you don't get an overview as the GPS is limited to a deatiled section of the route.  On Michelin you can print serveral versions in either overview or detailed scale.

It's good to have an insurance of the TCS (Touring Club Suisse) in case of a car breakdown, illness etc. The 'Livre ETI' pays you the transport to a garage etc.:

i don't know of places that allow you to rent just a GPS. Hope you find one, but if you don't you have 2 options:

1. See if someone might agree to lend you one. Be nice to the folks on this thread and who knows...(-:

2. Buy a simple one. You can now get a basic good-enough version at under CHF 150.

my name is Lelde and I study and work in Geneva. I was sifting through some information on where to get a GPS for a car (I have rented the car from a rental place in the airport but it does not come with a GOP) because my friend's coming to visit and I certainly do not know Switzerland well enough to travel around without one. I saw that you kindly offered to lend your GPS to the lady who asked where she could find one. I was wondering whether you could be kind enough to do the same for me. I am willing to pay (would 30 CHF work?), of course as well as leave some security deposit or maybe my residence permit and all my contact info just to insure that I will not run away with your GPS. :) I would need it only for 2 days from June 18-19 and would return it to you on19th evening or 20th some time. Please let me know if this is something you can do, and if not, maybe you have some friends, who would be willing to help out. I would sincerely appreciate it!
