Return goods to InterDiscount

Hi all, just a quick question, does anybody have experiences of returning things to InterDiscount? Do they take goods back? I wanted to return something I bought last Saturday, the package is not even opened yet, but they won't take it back. They told me they can change it with other products, but they are not able to take goods back and pay me back money. I was just wondering if this is normal in Switzerland?

Thanks.

I think most places take stuff back if it's up-opened without 1-2 weeks of when you bought, and give you back money.

Seem ID give you back credit. They're a big company, and I assume they wouldn't do that if it was against the law.

Just check their site for their public returns policy.

I've been wondering about this rule myself so after your question, i did a little digging.

First I found an association, La Federation Romande des Consommateurs which answers consumer related questions, in french.

Then I discovered this well-written outline of consumer rights (written for students but applicable to all).

In summary, with certain exceptions, companies are NOT obligated to accept returned goods. The consumer relies on the good-will policies set out by the company and not by any law.

As a general rule, anything that is marked-down (reduced price) cannot be exchanged or the cost refunded.  The restriction can also apply to goods on special offer.  Either way, this should be printed or stamped on the till receipt.

Also, most retailers have a time-limit for returns or exchange.

So it is always prudent to ask what the store’s policy is before you pay, especially if you are buying a gift or buying for someone else.

I once bought a machine at a Nespresso store in Zurich but was not happy with it, so I went to the store in Geneva to return it. It was several weeks later, as I was travelling and was not able to go during working hours. The sales associate said they would not accept it, so I asked to speak to the manager. The manager came and said they would not accept it. I asked what is his full name and started to open up my camera case as if I was about to take a photo. Then he said he could refund it but cash only, not on my credit card.

Every now and then, Coop and Migros overcharge for items. When I tell customer service, they always offer to refund by cash even though I had paid by credit card.

So maybe you could speak to a manager and see if they would be willing to refund by cash? Or if things get really serious, you can ask for the full name of the manager and whip out a camera ;)
