Rowing/Aviron and Triathlon
 Hi,

I will be moving to Geneva in mid-November and am interested in joining a rowing club. I can both scull and sweep row and I took part in the 'Tour du Lac Léman' a few years ago. I would either be interested in joining a (female or mixed) crew to train with or finding someone to row a 2x or 2- with. Anyone have any suggestions regarding which club to join?

Would also like to find a triathlon club/group.

Thanks.

 Hi,

I just moved to Geneva last week and am also looking for a triathlon club.  I am a bit of beginner in the triathlon area but have done a few a while back...want to get back into, especially since I probably will not be working here (cannot speak French yet)!

There's a rowing club/team out of Societe Nautique de Geneve (SNG).  The training for
the women is pretty loosely organized, but we race in several regattas through the spring and
enter an 8 for the Swiss National Champs.  Training on the erg is pretty much individual
responsibility throughout the week at SNG, plus weekly outings on the water Sat. mornings on
the Rhone.  If you want more info, contact David Michalski at [email protected] size="3">

Triathlons here are something else.  I remember doing sprint distances in the spring as a workout session.  But here, I'm wiped!  The hills are quite killer.
There's a club here in Geneva.  I'm not a member, but I have chatted a few of them up while doing recon.  They seem pretty ok.  I think they are more along the lines of training oriented versus socially oriented.  Here's the link www.trigeneve.ch

I really really miss my old club back home and think that I may try to get a group together here in Geneva that is more socially AND training oriented.  That's how we were back in Chicago.  Yeah we did our 60 mile rides on saturdays, but we always met up for beers and pizza after our showers.    Not exactly providing training, but a group of people who need to do the same training and are willing to push ahead along with each other.  Have a couple workshops, initiate a few virgin tri-ers.  Do some group cross training climbing mountains.  Things like that to put a little fun into the torture of training.

Let me know if you'd be interested in something like that!

I am a member of "Triathlon du Salève", located in Annemasse! It's a great club but people don't really speak English there :-$ Here is the link in case anyone is interested: www.trisaleve.fr

As Lauren said, depending on your objectives, training in groups is fun, motivating  and more than enought to finish sprint distances triathlons!

Tri season is over for this year but it's stil possible to swim, bike and run before rushing for cross country skiing!!

Hi everyone - thanks/merci for all the helpful links!

I had already come across the genevatriathlon.org website but it's good to know about the trigeneve one too so that I will have several options when I get there. Lauren, I would definitely be interested in the 'social' side of training too. The reason I want to join a club though is to get to grips with the swimming element as have only done one triathlon that involved a (sprint) swim - the rest all involved kayaking instead!

Fabien, is Annemasse close to Geneva (apologies for lack of geographical knowledge)? I don't have a car so would be using either public transport or vélo...I am currently looking for accommodation in the Eaux Vives area so not sure which club that would be nearest too? Will definitely have a go at cross-country ski-ing too - very good for fitness, though have only tried it once before!

Kat, let me know how you get on and which club you decide to join - maybe we can combine our research.

Hi all...

Lauren and Eimear...I would love to get together some rides, swims and runs. A good pizza and/or beer after would be a bonus!  I have not been on my bike in ages and am anxious to get going.  However, it will have to wait a few more weeks as my bike is in storage until we find a flat (I just moved here last week).  I definitely want to find some training partners but also am hoping to meet some people along the way!
