Schengen visa at FRENCH consulate in Geneva
Does anybody have experience getting a French/Schengen visa at the French consulate in Geneva? If so, how long does the process take after the consulate rendez-vous?

(If I understand correctly, although Switzerland has entered into the Schengen agreement, airports will keep demanding Schengen visas if you cross into France, Germany, etc. until March 29, 2009 so until then a Schengen visa is needed for citizens of some countries.)

Hello!

I have no experience of how long it takes to get a visa at the French Consulate, but as a french living in Geneva, I have experienced them and the less I have to go there, the better I am. Each time I have contact with them, I feel like I am going through some sort of twilight zone. This morning, I called them for a question and:

1) Someone picks up the phone and I get to hear 5mn conversation about lunch before the lady is able to say "hello" in the phone

2) she transfers me to a guy who answers the phone so quietly that I am hardly able to decide whether I actually have heard someone on the phone or not...then he hangs the phone.

3) I call back (the ladies, etc...) then I ask him why he hung the phone and he says because I haven't told him my name (but he hasn't told me his when he picked up the phone and neither after)

4) I try to explain my problem to him and all I get is someone who is not listening to what I say, who gives me answers I do not need (a whole lot of wonderfully precise crap but not a word usefull)...finally I felt like hanging the phone

5) Finally, after 10mn of verbal struggle on my side in order to try to get him to even listen to my question, he gives me the one and only, the preferred, the beloved answer: this is not my jurisdiction, please call another place...

I wish someone would vote that each of them has to survive 6 months in a private company each 10 year in order to keep its privileges...good thing I am not paying taxes to pay these unpolite, unhelpful people.

I remember going through the same hassle last time I went there with my newborn son.

hi,

You don't need a Schengen visa.
All you need is your permit to show at the boarder/ immigration.
I experienced applying for Schengen at the French Consulate for 4x and they were very good. I don't think they still process Schengen Visa applications these days.
