Scuba in the Geneva region

I want to get back into scuba diving after years of inactivity. I saw there's an active scuba community in here, so I thought to ask a few questions.

Do diving shops fill up to 300 bar (I have a 300 bar steel tank)?

Where can I get my regulators serviced? (Apex)

Is a doctor's certificate required?

I'd like to join a refresher course - in English. Any recommendations?

I'm certified for NAUI level II and Nitrox and I've taken courses in winter diving, dry suit, night diving and under-ice, and logged all my dives in the more northern latitudes. However, I'd like to start from the pool, practice the balance, adjust weights, remind myself of the emergency procedures etc before going into the lake. Any recommendations?

Ilkka,

I can only answer for the refresher course, and recommend http://www.go-dive.ch/.

We ran a BuyClub promotion with them, and 50 glocals members went to try them out. The feedback was excellent.

When you speak with Stefan pls tell him he was recommended by glocals.com - it can't hurt the price you'll get...(-;

Hi IIkka,

There are a couple of dive shops inside and around Geneva, such as ADN (English speaking) in Servette (behind the station), Dive Attitude in Accacias (close to UNI), Dive Explorer in Versoix, Dolphin shop in Ferney France etc. The list is not exhaustive. You can google them and give a ring to get more information. As far as I know, ADN service regulators.

A doctor's certificate is usually required.

For the rest of your questions, maybe you could post directly on the Scuba Group's forum. There are some highly qualified and experienced divers in the group, who certainly will provide better answers than me to your query.

Enjoy your diving.

Aurelie

Hi IIkka,

My Name is Felix Klein, and I work at the ADN Diving shop in Geneva.

We would be very happy to help you with your refreshers. Of Course in English.

Unfortuntaley we currently do not have any service techniciens that have an apex certification, although this should be sorted shortly.

We fill tanks, but currently only to 220bar. and as far as I know there is currently no shop in the geneva region that fills to 300.

I hope this answers your questions. If not feel free to contact me again.

or come by the shop (opening hours can be found at www.adn-diving.ch)

cheers

Felix

llkka,

I run the glocals scuba group, and suggest you come along to one of our weekly bar sessions where we shoud be able to answer most of your diving related questions. Alternatively, feel free to send me a private nessage.

We occassionally offer certifying courses for free, depending on time, and dive in many excellent locations in the region between Sion - Geneva - Annecy, all year round.

Diving sessions in a pool must be organised via a recognised diving club (which we are  not), so for that I would recommend ADN. However, there are also plenty of shallow and flat locations in Lake Geneva where you can practice basic scuba drills and check your buoyancy. All lake/sea/ocean dives with our group are free, except for the obvious personal expenses such as tank fills. Feel free to sign up.
