Self Defence Course - by Women for Women
There have been a number of topics over the summer that have discussed the question of insecurity in Geneva, dealing with "uncomfortable" situations, requests for information about self defense courses etc. In most cases women started the thread or contributed their comments.

I recently met a woman who teaches martial arts classes. She told me about a self defense course offered in Geneva that is specially designed by women for women. The course is offered ONLY to women. The only man in the course is the "attacker". The current courses are offered only in French. I asked one of the instructors, an English Canadian if she would be willing to offer a course in English for those women that do not speak French. She said yes if there is enough interest.

A some information about the course:

I would take place over a weekend. A total of 11 hours of instruction.

The cost estimate (depending on the location) will be about CHF 225 per person

It covers the gambit of verbal, physical and sexual violence and the responses that can be psychological and/or physical.

Simple self defense techniques that are adapted to a woman's size and anatomy; that can be applied immediately and with great effectiveness by any woman.

Role playing and training of the different forms of aggression often used against women and the different verbal and physical techniques to address them and to get away.

Discussions within the context of the course about psychological aspects of self defense such as emotions, self confidence and self presence in difficult situations.

So, this thread is to see if there is really an interest in a self defense course for women members of Glocals. To make this work, there would have to be 12 women in the course. The timing of the course will be discussed once there is a enough of a firm interest to discuss the details with the trainer. Most likely it would be late this fall or early next year.

My role in this (my good deed for the month as my mother would say) is to put "A" together with "B".

So, if you are interested, please say so in this thread. After about a week, I will see how things are doing. For those of you who do speak French, I would ask that you support the English version for those women who do not speak French.

All the best.

Hi MaryMary,

Thanks for your input. The question will be is there enough interest to organize a course. It would require about 12 women to go ahead. So far 60+ people have looked at the details of the course. A number of women that I would have thought would be interested have not responded one way or another.

I will check back in a few days as I promised to give some input to the trainer in about a week.

Ladies, if you are interested, now is the time to say so.

Best.

Me too, I am interested! I have done these before but due to lack of practice (thankfully) I imagine none of it has stuck and thus would welcome opportunity to refresh such skills.

Hi Ladies.

Thanks to those of you who has added your name to the list. Keep the signs of interest coming. Remember that we need approximately TWELVE of you to make this happen so do not be shy. I would like give some feedback to the trainer at the end of the week.

This course is an investment of a weekend (during the day) and a little money in a very focused and practical "life skill" specifically adapted for women that some day you might be very thankful that you have.

With hundreds, if not thousands, of you in the Geneva/Lausanne area, I would be very surprised if we could not find twelve women interested.

A friend at work would also be interested but only if it were spread out between 2 saturdays rather than all in one weekend if possible.

Hi ladies,

Unfortunately we have not been able to generate enough interest in the course. As such I will have to tell the organizers that fact as I owe them an answer.

Thank you once again for expressing you interest.

All the very best.
