Selling / buying a car on ricardo.ch, is it worth it?

Hi everyone,

I've posted my car for sale on the website ricardo.ch, I paid 65 Chf to get it on front page, and literally received 0 response from it. It feels like I threw money out of the window.

I'm also advertising my car on glocals under title "Peugeot 207 1.4 Urban 5 doors" in Goods For Sale.

I feel like they just ripped me off here...! I am currently selling the car for Chf 7500 which is already a huge cut from what I paid at the Peugeot shop 2 years ago, so it's clearly well within market price.

Am I doing something wrong here, or is ricardo.ch pretty useless to sell cars?

Any tip would be really useful!

Thanks in advance.

Thibault

try putting it in Anibis.ch, it's free so you've nothing to loose, just update your ad as often as possible to keep it in the first few pages.

You could also maybe try the GHI..?

On the site

http://pa.ghi.ch/Projet_GHI?TITRE=GHI

Or in the paper, as it goes to most letterboxes just about and is widely read. That does involve payment though and tarifs will be in present or next edition in your letterbox

FYI, advertising in the print edition of GHI (Genève Home Informations) is not cheap and will cost quite a bit more than the ricardo ad.

You could also try to sell it on autoscout24.ch and/or car4you.ch

But I'm sorry to tell you that your ad is only one amongst many more. And it's not very interesting Frown

On Autoscout alone, there are more than 700 Peugeot 207 for sale (different years, models and engines).

I found 4 that are the same as the one you are selling (1.4 Urban, 5 doors): 3 of them cost less than 5'000 and the last one is 5'900...

Hi Lexa,

Thanks for your message. Could you let me know the mileage that these 4 cars have? From my own research, there are 251 peugeot 207 like mine on Autoscout which have less than 50'000km on the counter, there is only 1 that is cheaper than mine - and it is completely wrecked!

I had actually priced my ad to be very competitive in comparison to similar car on the market.

So I appreciate there are cheaper products out there (because of lesser quality), but that doesn't mean I should under value my own (although I did that already slightly), right?

Yes, you're right, the cars I mentionned have a much bigger mileage than yours.

However, from my experience (which is not very big, I admit), mileage has not a big influence of the price of a second hand car. It's its age that determines the price.

According to the TCS:

"La perte de valeur due au temps, pour une voiture avec un kilométrage annuel normal de 15’000 km, est même plus importante que la dépréciation due au kilométrage.

Les automobilistes qui roulent peu, c’est- à-dire dont la voiture affiche au compteur moins de 100’000 km après dix ans, sont particulièrement frustés lorsqu’ils constatent combien leur voiture, encore bonne mais obsolète au point de vue technique, est dépréciée aux yeux des autres automobilistes."

On autoscout24, most of the other Peugeot 207 that are within the same price range as yours are less than 5 years old, or are CC or SW models, or have more poweful engines, like this one, for instance:

http://www.autoscout24.ch/fr/d/peugeot-207-petite-voiture-2011-occasion?allmakes=1&index=0&make=60%2c0%2c0&model=445%2c0%2c0&nav=8&priceto=7500&returnurl=%2ffr%2fvoitures%2fpeugeot--207%3fallmakes%3d1%26make%3d60%2c0%2c0%26model%3d445%2c0%2c0%26nav%3d8%26priceto%3d7500%26sort%3dyear_desc%26vehtyp%3d10%26r%3d5&sort=year_desc&vehid=2938379&vehtyp=10
