Wondering whether anyone can help... I have a friend who wishes to sell some platinum jewelery, but doesn't know any stores dealing in jewelery/buying pieces. Can anyone help with recommendations? Many thanks, Jonathan : )

I would check at UBS downtown. A friend told me she sold a piece of gold jewelry there, believe it or not. If you go to a jeweler, you could be cheated by quite a significant amount. She should also check the price of platinum per ounce/gram in Swiss francs before she sells.
If the jewelry was made by Tiffany or any other famous jewelry store, the value could also be higher than the scrap metal price. It all depends upon what kind of jewelry it is.

Thanks a lot for the UBS tip. Do you think/know if Credit Suisse might do likewise?

Don't know, but can't hurt to ask?
Here is a link to a transcript of an A Bon Entendeur show produced by Télévision Suisse Romande from last December. The producers of the show organized some test sellings around the region and found that there was a very wide variance in payouts for jewelry. So many of these "sell us your gold/silver/etc." shops have opened up in the past year and there is not a lot of regulation governing any kind of minimum price they have to give you.

The program's transcript notes that Geneva has an official assayer's office -- that is -- testers of metal for purity.
Here is the information of the Geneva assay office. Perhaps they can provide further information.
