Speeding ticket for wrong driver on a rental car

Hello!

Quick question in case anyone happens to know. I just got a speeding violation in the mail from our Easter trip - we remember the flash so we were expecting a ticket. Reading the rest of the forums here, it seems like we are in a lucky position - we were only 11kmph over the limit in an 80km zone, but there is a "safety margin" of 5kmph, so we're only getting charged for 6kmph over - 60 CHF.

We were in a rental car, I was the main driver on the contract but my partner was driving. However, the rental company has put me as the driver and forwarded that info to the Nidwalden Canton police department. If there will be any sort of permanent mark on my license I will go through the administrative faff of reassigning the ticket to my partner. If not, I'm happy to just pay and forget about it.

Thanks for any advice that anyone might have! This is the website that makes me think it's not worth the hassle, that we'll be free and clear once the fine is paid: https://www.ch.ch/en/driving-over-speed-limit/

Hi Viki,

basically your downside risk is that if you make a mistake and get penalised in the future for any driving issues they will take into account your past fine so could penalise you more severely.  So its better for you if this fine is allocated to the correct person who was driving!

In Geneva, any fines under CHF 300 that are paid on time become anonymous.

It's probably the same in Nidwalden.
