Suggestions needed! What to do with 120 students on exchange...

Hi,

I am looking for some suggestions of what to do with 120 students (17-18 years old). They are coming for exchange from Denmark and have one night in which they need to find entertainment (Wednesday 17th).

Does anyone have any ideas of what is happening on that date that will entertain a large group (no alcohol) that isn't too expensive.

Thanks.

Same comment. Students who do not drink and yet come from the land of Carlsberg and akvavit

Probably best to pack them off to bed early

Below is a link to what is on in Geneva but these are not events you can take 120 people to.

http://www.geneve-tourisme.ch/index.php?rubrique=0000000121&action=02&deb=0&p=1&tri=titre&d_d=1350424800&d_f=1&r=toutes&public_cible=010,003,002,&s=0

Otherwise hiore a boat expensive or a hall where you can seat 120 people and cook

There have been forums on this

I can't think of anything great either, but let me get some ideas out and maybe someone else can add to it:

First some questions - do you have transportation for them? Where do they sleep? Do you have a large room (e.g. gym, cantine, auditorium) available? Do they speak decent English?

My ideas:

1. Rent a boat. There may be boats available for 120. Not sure. And you still need some form of entertainment on board.

2. Form teams of 6-10, and have a pop quiz. Easy and cheap to organize. Can be done anywhere.

3. Rent a cinema. For example at Plainpalais there's a cinema that can be rented (http://www.grutli.ch/2012/). You can take your own DVD or take a movie from the their collection. I suggest a classic like 12 Angry Men, maybe followed by a discussion.

4. Sports event in a gym (maybe not at night?)

5. I could put together a lecture (I'm a university teacher), for example 'introduction to marketing', 'marketing and social networks', or 'starting up a company'.

Thanks everyone... I had a feeling this will be a tough one!

Will forward your suggestions onto them, hopefully they find something they like.

How about a fondue hike at night ? You can hike up the mountain (from St Cergues but there are other places too locally I believe) and have a fondue in a rustic restaurant at the top and then hike back down at night. This combines getting to see a bit of the the local countryside with local cuisine and isn't too demanding for those who are not too sporty.

Or a guided tour of the old town.

But still, the boat & fondue sounds better...

Didn't know that.

Following up on the Halloween idea in the old town - you can probably find some Glocals members who are willing to scare the hell out of some 17-year-olds.

Just to clarify the fondue hike can be done during the day or at night - in fact people aim to do it at night as in good weather the path is lit by moonlight and is very nice. If you head up early evening it will be light enough to see and dark on the way down. But the fondue and boat could work too.

see with scottdave / melinda to see if he would be willing to give your group a tour guide of Geneva. I heard people like his tour of Geneva last week. And maybe he can help find a venue for Fondu.
