Summer sales in France (Haute Savoie) will start on Wednesday, June 15th, for a duration of 6 weeks. So get ready. :-)
In Switzerland every department store/shop can decide when to start the sales season. So there is no official start/end.

Alcidia is right: Summer sales start on Wednesday, June 22nd, in France (Ain, Haute Savoie).
In Switzerland, Interio, Ikea and some other have already started the sales season.

It’s a bit of a free-for-all but I’d say the peak period starts immediately after the schools break up for the summer holidays.
Look for the word “Soldes” in shop windows.
