Swiss Driving License Exchange - Course de Contrôle

Hello,

Non EU citizens who wishes to drive in Switzerland needs to pass a so called "course de contrôle" within a year of their arrival.

Does anyone have taken this practical test? Can you please share your experiences? What do they ask? Is it complicated? Anything would be helpful.

Regards,

Vanessa

Hi Vanessa,

I did the test some time ago, i guess 2 years, in geneva. Before that I was driving already for several years. just to be sure, i took 2 hours driving course with any driving school. they know about the need and offer service for this purpose.

it was not that difficult. you need to drive in different zones, such as on the normal strees, school zone and highway. normally it supposed to last 1 hour but for me it was 40 min.

hope this helps and good luck.

Hello Bilegee,

Thanks for your response. My concern is about the language. Are they willing to speak english or only French?

I have contacted a driving school too to take few hours of Driving lessons. Apparently if you fail this course de controle, you have to retake the driving license!!!!

Thanks

Vanessa

Hi

i do not remember exactly, but most probably it was in French. Luckily i have basic french and managed it. I hope you can find an instructor who speaks English or at least basic English to tell you what is the difference between other countries and Swiss rule. Also for the actual test, i believe it was in French and not sure if you may find english speaker. you need to check that and then take an appointment for the test.

It is true that you have only one chance and if you fail you need to start as beginner which is costly.
