Swiss Health Insurance Advice Needed

Hi, I'm new here having just moved from the UK.  I have been looking into getting Basic Health Insurance without accident cover.  I have looked at comparis.ch and have received quotes from Helsana, CSS and Visana.  Does anybody know how reliable and approachable these providers are?

I have also received a higher quote from Groupe Mutuel - any feedback?

Looking forward to reading your responses and thanks in advance

I am in the similar situation. Nothing signed yet, but I will go for Groupe Mutuel as I keep hearing good things about them. Slightly more expensive but good service, quick reimbursement if needed. Bottom line is to look at your needs and the franchise you are willing to accept because in any case you will pay.

Hello,

From what I heard, I personally took Assura, which is one of the cheapest and seems to offer a good service as people told me.

But of course it depends of your needs.

Just make sure you have accident + 3rd-party liability + residence insurance somewhere and check for how long the contract runs.. (5 years.. 2 years).

hello

There s no difference between compagnies for basic insurance, you will not be refund more with groupe mutuel than with assura or helsane... only time needed for having money back can be different.

on that point groupe mutuel and helsana are quiete fast compare to Assura who has another philosophy and ask to their client to pay first and send the bill once a year...

Assura doesn t propose "phamaca card" so mean you will have to pay your medicine at the pharmacy while with groupe mutuel you just need to show the insurance card and pay later.

I will recomand you if you go with groupe mutuel and if yuo can afford it, take some extra coverage specially the one for privat hospital...I spend one night in HUg and never again, I will return there.

Cheers

Thanks for your posts...I'm still looking around.  I already have accident cover at my work place so won't need any.  Really my needs are very simple - just basic cover and the ability to see a GP should I need to.

Helsana, css, intras...

I will not recommand Css and Intra for this year as now they become only one compagny and have lot of administrative issue due to the gathering...

If I may, look with groupe mutuel the "sanatel", it offer you good discount and the deal is you juste have to call their hot line before going to doctor to take first advice, then you can go or do what you want...

I would also recommand you to have a look of your professional insurance, cause even if you are cover for accident by them, look if you can  in case of accident be treated in a privat hospital ( depend if your compagny is generous or not  )

email me, if you want more information

hello everyone,

Indeed basic coverage is the same in all companies what changes is how fast they reemburse you and the premium you pay per month. What changes is the complementary coverage and this only depends on what kind of "extra" coverage you need. I work in a brokerage company in insurance and i work with all the insurance companies, if you need any advises/help to subscribe etc do not hesitate in contacting me. My email address is [email protected]

best regards
Sari

Are there any good providers that have their forms and terms available in English? We were considering CSS but all the information is in German and when we asked for an English version we were told they do not have. Any other suggestions?

Hi,

In the end I went with Swica.  They have everything in English and you can email them any time with any question and they get back to you really quickly.  They also offer the Swica card where you don't pay up front for any medical treatment.  I also looked at Concordia - When I went to meet with them they were in the process of having their documents translated into English.  Groupe Mutuel have english documents and from what I hear good customer service (a more expensive option though!).  Hope this helps?

Hi everyone,

You can check also at WinHealth (www.winhealthgroup.com) if you are looking for a private complementary health insurance. The website is in French but all relative documents are available in English and there are very efficient.

the only thing is that you must have a basic compulsory Swiss insurance Lamal,in that sense, you can apply forthe cheapest one because WinHealth will refund you directly then after...

Hope this helps you too.

I am in a situation at the moment where my work contract finishes on the 31st December and also my current health insurance contract. I live over the border in France with my family and plan to claim the 'Chomage' untill I find another position.

I am a bit concerned that I will have a period when I am not insured as I will now need to get again a 'Carte Vital'.

Anyone out there been in a similar situation ?
