TRANSPORTS?

Hi everybody!
Sorry to bother, but I need some info. I'm gonna come in Geneve in a week and start working as an intern...but I'll live in France, in Prevessin-Moens, nearly 13 km from where I'll work.
Where to find info about transports etc? Unfortunately, I barely understand french and I can't speak it...(but I'll learn it, promise!! the fact is that I don't need it for my job...)
(ah, just to know: how's the weather over there? :D)
Thank you all!

Hi,

Welcome to Geneva, check out tpg.ch or sbb.ch there are busses going down to Geneva.

(Bus O) - there are tons of people just not being able to speak French, just at least get the basics like svp and merci, and with a smile you will get very far.

PS use the auto translate function of chrome, it's a life saver :-)

PS2 the weather is dreadfull but at least there is loads of snow in the mountains!!!!

The tpg site is also in English if you press the ENG thing at the top of the welcome page.

No idea how good it is.  No need to bother with wth sbb or cff site as they are train orientated and not so good on buses

Depending on exactly where you live and work, I'd suggest getting a bike, to get you to transportation into town. Much faster than the O bus.

E.g. if your internship is at the UN, then you need to take the F bus. Otherwise probably the tram at Meyrin.

In fact, even faster is biking all the way to town. I live and work close to the F-bus, but I save time if I bike. (even uphill, and I'm very far from being sporty.) For suggestions of bike itinereraries, see http://carte.apicy.fr/

The TPG (Transports public genevois) website does indeed have some info in English, although I don’t find it that great.  The SBB/CFF site won’t help for the area where you are going to live.

However, are you staying with someone in France?  Have you asked that person how you can get to work?

Also, if you are flying into  Geneva Airport, you will find a TPG information desk in the arrival area where you can ask questions, get leaflets, etc.  There is also a machine in the baggage reclaim area where you can obtain a free TPG ticket which is valid for one hour’s transportation after your arrival.

Another suggestion is to email the person looking after your internship.  He/she should also be able to give advice.  And you could also contact the UN interns own website.

All the best, and enjoy your stay here.

Since when have you stopped being sporty? Or have you simply stopped walking up mountains with your foot in a plaster
