Taxes please help, urgent !!

Dear folks,

I really need your help with my tax declaration form I have to fill until Tuesday 30th of June. Because of some business trips, I am a bit late with it but I would have a few clarification in my situation. I am leaving in Geneva and working in Lausanne and have a GA for the train. I begin to be confused with the difference between ICC and IFD taxes and I wanted to know if I could deduct the whole amount of my AG or not ? I am also wondering if I can deduct 15 CHF of lunch costs per day as I cannot go back home at lunch ?

Finally, I have some questions regarding the medical costs. I had some costs last year not being covered by the insurance company as I did not have a contract at the time. I am then wondering if I could add theses costs in addition to the bonus paid to my insurance company ?

I thank you in advance for your great help as I am stuck for the moment in the comprehension of the costs I could deduce.

Have a great we, stéphanie

Hi Stephanie

Forgive me for being a bit blunt with you, but I think it is a bit naive to seek advice for something as serious as your taxes on a forum like this.

If you do a search there are professional accountants here who will sort it all for you for around 80 to 100chf.  Given the potential cost of a screw up, I think it might be money well spent.

Good luck.

Te best thing to do is  to go in person to see them Monday, and ask their advice. Then you are still within the  delay. This way you will make a more favourable impression . Take all documents relataing to your questions above. Go as early as you can in the morning as there could be a room full otherwise and best to take something to read or occupy yourself whilst waiting.

just be very open and humble about the situation and your concerns and explain thet you are confused.  Ask for their help and advice. Contrary to some beliefs they can be very pleasant and helpful.

The most likely outcome of this will be an explanation and further delay to fill it in

TogJay is right. They are usually very helpful at the office and will explain it all to you. Just be there at 8am if possible so as to be sure to be seen. You can also ring them for a further delay or use your online e-démarches account to make such a request.

I hope you are not bothering with the paper version of the tax returen. The GE-Tax programme explains every step of filling out the form clearly, indicating how much you can deduct at each step without going to an accountant. In the case of lunch, they explain about the annual maximum deductable concerning somone who would have more than 2-hour commute to go home for lunch and return to work. Even if you claim more than is allowed for you, the tax office readjusts it without there being any major incident. You can see their calculations then on the "bordereau" they issue. There is nothing to be stressed out about. The same goes for your medical receipts etc. And it all is automatically calculated how much is considered for ICC and IFD.

Good luck with that!
