The via ferrata season is coming up

Now that the city slickers are heading back to their city homes it's time for us to go out and re-claim the cliffs for via ferrata. I'm really looking forward to via ferrata from this spring open.

I think we should organise to meet up and discuss options about the best locations where to go around this time of year. We need a place that won't freeze our fingers and that can get ourselves re-aquainted with seeing the cliff from metal pieces sticking out of the cliff face.

How much interest is there for via ferrata trips and are you signed up for the group already?

It's a great sport. You see some really nice landscapes and quaint villages. You need a head for heights but you can build on that as you go from easy via ferrata to harder ones as you gain experience.

There is a nice short one in the Valais. I have done it twice so far. Once as a beginner with a guide and group, the second time where I had a few via ferrata of experience but my sister none. In both cases we got up quite easily. My sister was surprised that the ferrata was already over. This demonstrates that it's a good via ferrata for learning.

How it looks on a rainy day: beginner ferrata

And for one of my favourite via ferrata so far:

favourite

What's great about the via ferrata is the landscapes you see, overcoming those small moments of fear and of course the physical element.

Trees sway, ciffs don't :-). It's good to believe you're not afraid of heights. It's also good to be able to overcome that fear should some moments be a little more physically challenging.

So far we're four people wanting to go. That's enough to fill a car comfortably. The place where I want to go for the first ferrata is expected to range from 5 percent to 20 percent of rain and the temperatures range from 0°C to 13°C. With gloves it may be possible to do.

I want to find at least one other person with some experience before going with a group of beginners.

I am impatient to go back up to the cliffs. I think of it frequently.

My roommates would maybe like, depending the dates. And I think he did some via ferrata already. I will ask him tomorrow and check if I'm not mistaken that he did already.
