UBS (Rue de Confederation branch) - a nightmare

Dear all,

This my first post ever in a public forum and I also never publicly complained about a company before, but I am interested in other users' experience with UBS, and more particularly its Rue de Confederation branch - mine has been the worst so far.

Therefore, anybody had the same bad experience and/or can recommend another bank for basic services and possibly a good deal on EUR transfers from time to time? I would be grateful for your thoughts and advice.

Just to give you a brief overview of my customer experience there: I am new to GenevaI opened my account in late November, ordered internet banking immediately and am still waiting for that service 3 months later. Standard maestro and credit cards took weeks to issue, UBS charged me for the account although by the glocals offer and my employer's benefits it should be free. I had to deal with rather unfriendly staff when making my "monthly pilgrimage" to the branch for enquiring about the process of what seemed to me the very basics of banking services. When sending emails to staff at the branch, I never received any answer. To top this, I never received any appolgy from any staff for what I consider really bad service so far.

By the way, if anyboby from UBS reads this, I am more than happy to discuss this matter with you.

Thank you,

Best,

Patrick

Patrick,

I'm really sorry to hear about your troubles with this UBS branch. I don't have any experience with UBS, so I can't comment on that, but I do appreciate you taking the time to post about it.

I would suggest that you post a review of this UBS branch at in the Guides Section, which allows you to rate it 1-5 stars and wil allow others to post their reviews, as well.

Sadly, businesses are not known for their customer service. It seems like when you *do* get good service, it's unexpected. But, three months is really too long, I agree. Why do they say it's taking so long?

I've been using the PostFinance bank since arriving and it's been fine. I only use the PostFinance card, not a credit card, but they have that, too.

Good luck. Hope you sort it out soon.

I agree: Postfinance is good and your deposit is guaranteed by the Swiss Government (which is of case not the case for UBS, CS...).

Actually in Switzerland the deposit up to CHF500'000 is guaranteed by the Swiss Gov't with all banks here offering retail services.

Clearly if you win the Lotto thats useless, but I doubt too many Glocalites have 500k sitting around on a current account in cash.

Post Bank and the Kantonal Banks are cheaper than UBS/CS, but less international.

A bank wont answer your email due to security reasons unless you sign a disclaimer / Waiver at the branch you hold the account. This is to protect the account holder, however inconvenient it might sound.

Sure, if there is some money left in case of a failure of a bank (after payment of the all the prior-ranking obligations) you might get your money back. UBS might be "too big to fail".

PostFinance AG belongs to the Swiss Post AG who is owned by the state (they have 100% of the shares). But sure: the Switzerland might also become bancrupt one day...

I myself, have had no problems with UBS at all - I think I have been lucky perhaps ??. Thats not to say I don't have problems with banks in other countries !! For currency movements I now use CurrencyFair which has saved me at least $1000 (aus) in just 2 transfers to NZ.

Always had best experience with UBS people from Plainpalais branch, they would even call ME to remind me of important stuff or some small problem. Any time I needed them, always had fast answer. You may try to change branch....
