UK/Swiss Tax Agreement!

Hi Glocals world!

I was wondering if anyone knows a good UK/Swiss Tax Advisor. I've been working in Geneva for two years as a Swiss Citizen, I just had some money yanked form my bank account. My bank says its due to the UK/Swiss Tax Agreement and the forms they sent me (which I declined to fill in....I thought I was exempt from this!). Clearly I was wrong.

I need help understanding this new agreement and what I can do to prevent money being taken from me in the future. I dont see why I have to pay taxes here and in the UK....I know thats the case with Americans but I didnt think also with UK.

Help please! Any qualified tax advisors inbox me and I will try and book an appointment asap. Ideally I want a refund of all or some of the amount.

You don't have to pay UK tax if you aren't resident there. What may have happened is a withholding tax. It means they keep the money on the assumption that you're supposed to pay tax, but if actually you're not you can get it back.

I haven't had any issues like that and I'm a British citizen. But I told HMRC I was leaving. It took them forever to stop sending me the tax return, but eventually I got them to give it up. I never had to pay anything though.

I'm a UK citizen and I've started working recently on a UN consultancy (so I'm paid as a consultant, not a staff member) in Geneva. I'm really confused about whether I should pay tax, and if so, whether it's here in Switzerland where I now live or in the UK where I lived and worked and paid tax until August. I may return to the UK in a year or so when my contract finishes but that's unclear just yet. Does anyone know anyone who can give me good clear advice on this? All help appreciated!
