Can anyone tell me if Uber is legal in Geneva. Found some old posts online but from May 2015 that it wasn't. Any updates?
thanks, Douglas

According to this article on 24 Heures from January 2016, Uber is illegal in Geneva.
However, apparently Uber continues to operate in other Swiss cities, for instance Lausanne.

I don't know if legal or not, but ... https://www.uber.com/fr/cities/geneva/

i don't know the exact legal status, but uber operates in geneva and i dount very much that they would be allowed to operate if their service was not legal, given that the uber debate is very high profile in geneva

These amateurs can scout other countries.
If someone gets in an accident with them in CH, ie hospital, death, they do not sound responsible for it, and if the person taking this will get hurt, they will not get any medical insurance paid (if still alive).
Like hitchhicking in CH is illegal.
i will always pay a regular Geneva taxi, rather paying the unsafetty with these kids.

Hitchhiking in CH is legal!
Everyone who works in Switzerland has accident insurance, for any and all accidents.
Where do you get your information?

so here comes some truth about these kids from your words:
if uber messes up, sounds like it is not their responsibility, but the "client" shall go to the insurance (if still alive) and claim the money for accident and medical assistance.
With regular taxis, if there is an accident, their insurance is covering all charges. I'd rather pay 10chf more for a ride, but not be with a burden of '000chf for health treatment
About hitchhickin, I will find the link. But the source is the police and border controls, and it has been for ages in CH.

1st, check the date of the article
2nd, the test failed
3rd, as you are from the US, you should know why most of states forbid hitchhikin, same in CH
ps: let's stop it, no one is going to win here

What does being from the US have to do with anything? You are not Swiss either.
And it is not illegal to hitchhike in the USA.
I am still waiting for your link....

I am still the same bro. Just trying to defend my point of view on the question. Sounds like a good point to have a beer together, maybe more people would join ;)

As far as I know (and I'm not a lawyer):
1. If you have an accident (whether you're a passagenger in a taxi or an UBER or a bus) then your accident insurance is there to cover you.
2. The exact legal status of UBER in Geneva is a little grey and it's being clarified slowly. If it was very clearly illigal, the authorities would stop it (try doing something very high profile in Geneva if it's illigal, with coverage all over the press, and see how fast you'll get shut down). If it was very clealy legal, the taxi drivers would not waste millions trying to fight it in court.
