Unexpected cleaning

Hey

I have a very strange situation, so need an advice :(

Was on holiday for near month and when I returned 2 days ago to Geneva, I saw that somebody did a total spring-clean in my studio. And I didn't ask at all my landlady about it.

Studio was fine, but I don't feel comfortable when smb took my clothes, books, etc... So now landlady asks me for 200 fr, like "femme de menage worked 8 hours and I have to pay". 8 hours in a small studio? WTF?!!!!!

Another thing, that I don't live officially here, so I don't know how to tell about it to Regie...

I have good relationships with my cleaning lady but this situation really bizarre...

Dina

maybe the cleaning request was made by the legal / official tenant? if that is the case, they are liable for payment. otherwise, you owe nothing, even if they send you an invoice. you can always claim that they made an unlawful entry and, seems like your gold rolex and gucci bag are missing now!!!! :-)

i had a cleaning lady ( the concierge) who came every 2 weeks. but can you imagine, she charged me for cleaning during vacation time when she was away!!!!!

that put an end to her cleaning my place. and when i moved, there were dust piles

where she never cleaned ever!

Have a word with the cleaning lady, preferably with the help of a French speaking person, to get the gist of the story:

1. Who asked her to clean?
2. How many hours did she put in and for how much did she get paid?
3. Is she legal or does she work, like most, without declaring her work (and her stay in Geneva)?

1.:If it is the landlady, the one that rents the apartment to you without having asked the régie for permission: say no. You did not ask for the studio to be cleaned, therefore you are not paying for it.
2. Maybe eight hours, maybe less: it's good to know and to tell that you know.
3.The cleaning lady is probably illegal as well. Tell the landlady you know it, and you will not tell the regie (but you could).

In any case, either you pay and keep your studio and a pleasant relationship with your landlady, or you don't pay and you look for another studio.

My advice: don't pay. You won't be deported, authorities have other fish to fry...

Marina, I don't have cleaning lady, so it was quite shocking when I entered app 2 days ago. I left some stuff for Red Cross, landlady took it when I was away, sent me a message, but she didn't give any word about cleaning!

M J thanks for advice, I will try to explain it properly. I know one person, very good french speaker, think, that I have to give him a call...
