University of Geneva

Hi,

I am an American high school student. I am looking at the University of Geneva as an option for university.

Are there any Americans or others here who have attended university there?

Any  knowledge gleaned about UNIGE or the Swiss univesity system would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

UNIGE is a good university but as far as I know it doesn't have many English-language programs. Also, accomodation in Geneva is pretty expensive.

I went to talk to someone at UNIGE yesterday (after they didn't reply to any of my emails) and found them very unhelpful and dismissive so I suggest you rely on the information provided on their website instead. Check out this brochure and you’ll find the criteria for your country:

http://www.unige.ch/dife/sinscrire/Immatenglish-1/immatriculer12_13.pdf

As far as I know, you must enrol online by some time in April and you will get an answer whether you are accepted or not by May. You must speak French at a B2 level for whichever bachelors degree you’re aiming for and the french exam will be held in August. This means that if you fail the exam in August you loose a year, so If you don't yet speak French and feel you wont be able to learn French to that level in the time you have left before the exam, maybe you should think about enrolling into a preparatory year:

 http://www.unige.ch/lettres/elcf/filieresenseignement.html

or at least take a summer course:

I’m going through the same thing at the moment so let me know if you need any help!

Goog luck!

Hi John,

You might want to look at the University of Applied Sciences (HES). They have a Business bachelor program, with major in International management, fully taught in English.

Thanks everyone for the responses. In terms of the application date I looked on the UNIGE website and also crus.ch but couldn't find anything. Does anyone have information on that?

thanks

In the one year preparatory course, do you still take the french exam in August or does it exempt you from having to take the french test?

Also to get into the Preparatory year, do you have to be accepted into the university before, or do you apply after the course is over?

Thanks
