Unskilled jobs and where to look for them

Hi  , I recently quit my freelance videography business due to burnout and am looking to take up a salaried full time job at least for a year . I speak english as a first language and conversational B2 level french . I have a British and French passport .

I am wondering what are the kind of jobs I can realistically look at in Geneve and where to look for them . Like bar jobs or retail or even frontdesk perhaps ?

Any advice or suggestions much appreciated !

I think you need to do like everyone else.

Prepare your CV.

Register with agencies.

Look on interet, use Linkedin and your personal network.

I believe at the unemployment agency there is also a database with available jobs in Geneve.

In addition, it is not the best advertisement to put on a public website burn out at the age of 27 even if this can happen to anyone at any age.

Most companies are looking for people with certain skills; i.e. you need to fit the box. So you need to be prepared to send a lot of applications until eventually you really find one.

^^Hey thanks for the suggestions . Don't know how much of my point got across .. but basically I am looking forward to not having the hassle of chasing invoices , keep up with clients and deadlines and most of all editing videos week in week out . Which is what I called burnout . I could not care less about putting out on a public forum how I genuinely feel especially that I am freelancer when I have to I can always go back to working with videos .

I am really not looking to send applications to companies looking for people with certain skills .. hence my post title unskilled job options . I am looking for jobs that dont require any particular skills not to a major extent like working at the till of a clothes store or a pub or even a supermarket like migros .. I don't know what skills I need to fit in to their box and if agencies are the way to go .

What about bar work? I know that the Club House is looking for bar staff. You will find the advert under the Jobs Section of the Classfied ads here on Glocals. Could be right up your alley!

Even if you burned out Eric, do you still have your camera?

My name is Kim. I spent many years doing a broadcast show called It's Rainmaking Time!

If you still own a camera and ever want to do some shoots in Geneva, let me know.

Kind Regards,

Glad I could help. Had a friend who had a burnout and people don't realise that it can sometimes be a long road to recovery. Best thing you can do is to take time out for a while. Wish you all the best.

Most jobs advertised on-line including Migros, Manor etc. This is why I am saying you need to do your research on-line.

Almost every company has a website and on that a "carrier" or "job" section.

A CV is usually not an option but a must. So this is why I am saying you should prepare one.

Also, the job center indeed has a database available electronically in their office so I was told. Thus you could simply move in their and look.

They also publish the lower salaried jobs....so you could reduce the time spent on trying to compile a number of possibbilities.

As far as the main supermarket chains are concerned, Migros has more applicants than vacancies for check-out and other jobs.

Applicants (many of whom are locally born and bred) are first tested for reading and writing skills in French plus arithmetic.  After a short initiation programme, they then have a three-month trial period before being hired.

I’ve been told that the Coop operates in similar fashion.

All candidates have to provide proof of residence, health insurance coverage, etc.

There is very little casual hiring of staff even by smaller businesses, which are usually family run.
