WRS

Hi there,

Just heard WRS will be shutting down their FM frequency as of next Tuesday. The only way to listen to them would be wether internet or DAB+. A shame to me...

Dead right... I'm actually quite miffed that 'Switzerland' got involved when it was a happy local radio station, WRG, back in the day!  All of a sudden it was Nationalised/privatised/bastardised whatever you want to call it - and some cock was put in charge that completely destroyed it, forcing out the best presenters... and then it just went all boring... I think Radio 4 listeners in the UK tuned in to WRS when they needed even more tranquility than the shipping forecast!

Then... boom... National radio in Geneva was about as useful as a chocolate teaspoon... The Butch is back... and Aussie Tony, and all of a sudden we don't have to hear about the traffic jams in Lugano, just good local news updates and the good humour we have been deprived of for the last 4 or 5 years!  It's so good to hear some humour again and even simple stuff like the local adverts.

So yes, a great shame it's going again, but only from FM this time, not sure if they're changing back to 'World Radio Geneva' or keeping the name 'World Radio Seriously-serious!  I just wish the whole thing had not been messed with in the first place, and we, as a city, had a local expat radio in the normal way... classifieds, competitions, local entertainment updates, etc.

Note to self... must buy a DAB radio...

What I worry about is that after I bought 2 dab+ radios at about CHF 100- each. but really most are one speaker and dont connect to larger speaker system like HiFi systems (wow I am showing my age?) , oh I also bought a Qonix Hifi system and it work great with the WRG (ops again WRS) but i really like to know more about the adaptors.

Then came out a new type of Logitech 'Squeezbox' internet radio at about CHF 149- and again one speaker and no connection to other speak systems. It also had WRS and about 2000 other channels that you can choose, and organize very easy. But really this Squeezbox is really cool, if you dont want to have a laptop or computer turned all all day to listen to a radio.

oh now it is World Radio

http://www.worldradio.ch/

Just a point about DAB+ for those who dont know anything about it:

1) is still needs reception and if its not good, you get nothing, yeah nothing. It works like the DVB-TV attennas on your TV that are not connected to cable or telephone lines.

2) the DAB+ car adaptor is really expensive about CHF 150 or more. So just change the car stereo that includes dab,

3) Im certain the Internet based radio reception will outdate everything, so I wouldnt dish out anything for the old tech of DAB

why not simply download the app ( for apple or pc or mobile phone - also android)

TuneIn Radio. you can listen to almost any radio station world wide. if you have bluetooth on your car radio, it will play over your in car stereo via mobile internet. just get an unlimited data account form your mobile provider.

i listen to bbc radio 2 in the mornings on my way into lausanne, and KUPI country music from Idaho on my way home in the evening!

epicure, odvious.

Everyones smart phones and Iphones work pretty good for internet radio, with Bluetooth or cable connnections.

But some people like to have a stand alone device so there mobile or laptop battery is not worn down.

That is why I got the Logitech Squeezebox which also has a build in lithium battery.

I think it's a waste to spend money for additional hardware that will become outdated in some years, not mentioning the hassle of carring it with you.

TuneIn Radio is actually the best way to listen to WRS if you have a large or unlimited mobile data plan.  Just hook your smartphone to the car radio via jack cable to the AUX plug, or simply Bluetooth if your car radio supports it.

Well depends what you need. A DAB+ system installed professionally will allow you Wire free, stearing wheel DAB controls, and no need for Mobile/cell unlimited data plans, Free reception. I have unlimited and use bluetooth for my car, but there are also downsides, like less control of my iphone via the bluetooth link with my built in car stereo& Same bluetooth problems with smartphones.

What i Know is World Radio (WRS) will be at the Geneva expat expo this sunday 6th Oct at La Praille selling units and can discuss with installation

http://www.expat-expo.info/Geneva.html

experts for your car at there exhibit table. Aslo they will be at the Classic car show in Morge chateaux this Saturday 5.10.13 from 11 to 17h with over 1500 classic cars on display.

I'm sorry that WRS is off the FM dial, but there's one thing I *won't* miss, and the last month was even worse than the previous few years...

They are CONSTANTLY cutting off really good songs and talking over them. It's sinful. It *should* be embarrassing to them, but clearly it's not.
