Would you go to a pub/club if you knew that the staff was texting your girlfriend/boyfriend details of everything that you were doing there, especially if you were not even doing what you were accused of. I am not condoning infidelity , but surely bar staff should have some code of respect towards their patrons?

I think it sounds pretty juvenile on the part of the bar staff. Ideally, no one would meddle. But I think we are missing some context here. If the bar staff are close friends of the couple or perhaps the person who wasn’t at the bar, then it is just friends getting involved and that’s a different category all together.
In all honesty, I can’t say as though I think bar staff have any moral obligation within their job description to protect the privacy of those they serve. In that context, they can do what they please – al be it not particularly admirable. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying it’s ok. However, I think in bars/pubs/clubs of all places, there is no code of silence in Geneva. We are a tiny, incestuous community – everyone knows everyone and we all know a lot of talk goes on in bars of all places.
