Hey people,
this might be a somewhat odd question, but which of the burbs around Geneva are the best to live in if Im looking for the following:
A somewhat decent expat crowd
Close to the city (<20 by metro)
Accesible by the night bus
Somewhat of a life of its own
I have a European passport so living in France aint a problem either. I know none of the suburbs will match all my critera, but just some tips on where is moreso my kind of place from people who are living in the area would be much appreciated.
Cause its either that or half my monthly salary is going to rent :-

I'll move to france next month, in Ville-le.Grand, Annemasse... it's really nice, it itakes 15 minutes to get to the city centre of geneva by tram, there are a lot of students living there... ask me on msn if you're interested...

Hey,
we will in Prevessin- moens (1 km away from Ferney-voltaire in France) it is 5 minuets away from ariport.
Ferney and Prevessin are great place to lve (cafes, resto, "marche" during the week-end..
it is 15-20 minutes away from quai des bergues/paquis.
We love it!

I live in Thonex and it's a quiet but I like my big flat that I probably wouldn't find anywhere in the centre for what I pay. Trams 12,16, 17 2 mins away, night buses.

Well, after living in Geneva city all my life, I moved to Versoix a year ago, and I am delighted. I think it matches most of the things you are looking for:
- 12mn by train to central station
- lower rents than in Geneva
- all facilities for every day life within walking distance: supermarkets, banks, post office
- several restaurants
- many sports facilities
and last but not least, you are right on the lake (sailing, countryside...)

I really liked Carouge, lots to do and quick into the city center.
