Hi!
I am also thinking of changing my antique:-) laptop... and buying one in France ...
if you are considering Annecy, there is a FNAC there...
(maybe there is other places?? but I do not know of)
or.... if you have not yet visited Lyon,
you may take the opportunity to join business&pleasure
Lyon is a very nice, big but not huge, city to visit & shop
All the best with your new laptop!

Before making the leap to a French laptop - make sure that you're comfortable with the French keyboard layout - it is *very* different to the Swiss, UK or US keyboards.
All the best.
Niall.

I'm not sure what your budget is but you can get a new decent laptop for 300-400 Euros, if you're willing to shop in France/Germany.

When you buy goods abroad you have to declare them at the Swiss border and pay the Swiss TVA. You can then ask at the border for a refund of the foreign TVA you paid; with some sellers, you can directly buy the good tax-free by declaring that it is for export. By doing this, you:
- will be law-abiding
- will also save money, since the Swiss TVA for electronic goods is about 8% while in other countries (France, Italy...) is about 20%.
For more info you should ask Reka, she's the tax expert here.

I'm selling a french laptop :) it's a french keyboard but windows 7 is installed in english. It's a 22inch HP Pavillon HDX900 entertainement series. It has a remote for playing music or videos! I would change the battery before selling it. here is a review: http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/laptops/hp-pavilion-hdx9000-review-49293079/
I'm open for discussion for the price if anyone is interested :) I live in Annecy so I can totally deliver in geneva!

Hi Lujza,
I have an almost new Fujitsu Siemens, convertible tablet pc (Wacom penabled), Lifebook T900, which I bought about two months ago. It has 560 GB hard, 4 GB Ram, 13" display, Core i5 2.67 GHz processor. In case you are not familiar with a tablet pc, you can find some information here;
http://ts.fujitsu.com/products/mobile/tablet_pcs/lifebook_t900.html
I bought this something like 1500 CHF but since I travel a lot it is a little hefty to carry otherwise its performance is perfect.
I am also attaching a youtube link about the product which of course has some different configrations than mine. If interested we can discuss the price.
Cheers

Lujza,
If you have time, check out Media markt in Meyrin - accessible by tram 16 - they usually have some discounts on laptops, and you can claim the Swiss TVA back if you're travelling back to Macedonia within one month. I got mine there a year ago.
However, best solution seems to be shopping in the EU at the moment, due to the strong SFr.
Cheers,
Dino

Annemasse has a Darty - darty.com- its not very big but has an aisle of laptops. Maybe you could even get them to order you one with a keyboard of your specification?

Or simply order a replacement keyboard of the correct type. I was able to find a Swiss keyboard for my netbook for around 25€.

In Annemasse, the best place to buy a laptop is probably : Maxessland. It is the biggest in this area and they are specialists in IT.
