Hi All,
Most likely an old topic, but I can't seem to find a thread. Decided to start learning French to fit in around here. Pretty much a complete beginner, any suggestions on the best place?
Thanks a Lot
Kevin

I don't know the two posters above, but I know from experience that a private teacher can be an effective and fun way to learn a language. So if that suits you go for it.
But if you're looking for more classroom-style teaching, you might want to have a look at Ecole-Club Migros. They have French classes (various levels, various schedules) at Rive and Balexert.

I'll also add LETP to the list, www.letp.ch. Good luck and happy learning.

I did my "Alliance Francaise" exam after preparations at the Ecole-Club Migros and found it very professional: good teaching at fair prices.
Also took some good Italian lessons at IFAGE http://www.ifage.ch/ which is even cheaper than Club-Migros.

I went to Migros Ecole in Geneva. I was lucky with my teacher and the group was small. It is more effective to have a private teacher though might be more expensive but you need to seek for a good one with recommendations. Not all native speakers have the ability to teach the language to others.

I'd actually like to know how my french is.. I think it's pretty merde but i've managed to get by on the basics each time i've been here..
Now that i'm actually resident here, i think i should take it to the next level but i'm just not sure at which level i need to pitch myself.
I assume most courses would have some sort of intro type thing, i don't think i need to be taught to say 'my name is' .. 'where should i put the garbage' .. 'take the second on left and go straight on' .. 'don't use the washing machine after 10pm' etc etc..
