Where should a young family live?

Hi everyone,

I’m moving to Geneva in September from Zug. I’m Australian, my husband’s Irish and after living in Switzerland for the past two years we’re really excited to be continuing our Swiss adventure.

I’m wondering if anyone has advice on the best areas to live as an expat (no French – yet!) with a toddler and newborn? We love the outdoors and go hiking a lot, and so would want somewhere family-friendly with space for the kids to run around. My husband will be working near the airport so open to anywhere within a 30m commute from there.

Also, does anyone have any recommendations about nursery or crèche for my 2.5 year old? I’m interested in the bilingual Montessori schools (Ecole Mosaic and Maison des Enfants) and would really appreciate any feedback on these schools and/or suggestions of good crèches.

Thanks for your help!

Vanessa

Vanessa - may not be much help but on our first stay here some 12 years ago our son went to the school below- Fabulous little school in the country run by an English lady - Mrs Harrison. I take it she is still there. We lived in Crans-pre- Celigny at the time - once again a great little village on the lake. Hope this helps

30 Mins from the airport gives loads of options!!

I'm in a small village called Eysins, close to Nyon. It's maybe 20mins from the airport, by either train or car. But that whole section from the airport out towards Nyon is dotted with loads of villages that offer child friendly space, access to the lake on one side and the mountains on the other side. Plus the towns like Coppet or Versiox.

Plus of course moving out from the city a bit gives you a whole lot more house for your money.
