Where to buy a used bike
Anyone know of a good shop at which to buy a quality used bicycle for a decent price?

Thanks!

No seriously, look in the GHI newspaper (it's free and comes out on Wednesdays), check out the WRG website.
I don't know the bike shops but I'm sure someone else does.

I don't mean to condone bike theft, but there are often deserted bicycles with really old vignettes that the city removes from time to time to make space in the bike racks. What I did was found a frame and some bent wheels and essentially fixed up a bike from parts scattered around the city. Any parts I needed (a seat for example) I bought from the little bike shop in Artamis. In the end I had a great single speed city bike for about 20 CHF.

My checklist goes something like this:

1. The bike has a vignette from at least a few years ago
2. The bike (or part) is not locked
3. The bike (or part) is obviously deserted - flat/destroyed tires, rusted chains, missing parts, bent wheels.

Sometimes you find a bicycle in a pile of junk from people moving out. In my opinion, these are fair game. Plus it's great to recycle. The main thing is you don't want to steal someone's bike. That is bad.

And of course it helps if you know how to fix bicycles...

Artamis is the alternative culture site of Geneva. You will find there a small bike shop that recycles a lot of things, for decent prizes (also for repairs). It's the shop mentionned by Dmorr (above).

Good luck, and don't forget the Vignette!

Syd.

Just for info, WRG went national and became WRS five years ago.
