Where to rent equipment for via ferrata?

Hi all,

I want to try out via ferrata. The closest (and it seems easiest) is at Fort l'Ecluse (Pays de Gex). However, there doesn't seem to be anywehere to rent the necessary equipment.

Could anyone tell me where I can rent equipment for via ferrata? (Preferably somewhere in Pays de Gex, but otherwise in CH is OK.)

Thanks,

Be careful, more deaths on Via Ferrrata than on Mont Blanc! I see a lot of people making errors when ascending, make sure you have a short rope (longe) to attach yourself to the VF so you can rest.

The nearest "true" Vf is probably on the Saleve:

not to be confused with the other partially protected route on tihe Saleve near the Vareppes. This route is very long with exposed sections with no protection.

Thanks all for your answers, they're very appreciated.

David:

>>make sure you have a short rope (longe) to attachyourself to the VF so you can rest.

Is this a rope you make yourself, by tying on to two mousquetons, (I'm a scout, so I know ropes and knots, but I'm not a mountaineer.) Or do you need to buy them ready-made?

>>The nearest "true" Vf is probably on the Saleve:

What do you mean by that? The others, e.g. the Fort-l'Ecluse, is it not a real vf, is it too simple, or what?

Thanks a lot,

you have the two via ferrata lines but normally you will make a short 30-50cm rope that is tied to the harness or vf kit with a mousqeton that you can use when resting by clipping to some iron work.

The petzl VF kit has a center loop which serves this purpose

no I was comparing the Pommiers VF with the Collonges VF - which is far from being 100% protected, see comments here

The Jacques Reclavier via Ferrata is a good starting point though and not as far as the l'Ecluse.

Hello to All

Good to know where to rent the equipment, how can I now find someone to assist me with my 1st Via Ferrata (either an experienced glocaler or a professional instructor)? Any ideas? It might want to try the Jacques Reclavier VF..

Cheers:-)
