Whhhhhhhhhhhhhere to go in geneva?
Hiiii, I am moving from Lausanne to geneva, and looking for some new fun places to go.. I am living quite near the lake and the four seasons.   Id definately like to find something a little less "posh".  -

THanks1! lexi

If you live near the lake, you'll be near to two Geneva's summers hot spots: Les Bains des Paquis, where tons of people gather to sunbathe, waterbath, have a drink or eat, and La Terasse, an open air bar on the Quai Wilson, left from the Bains entrance, where you can have a drink on the lawn, with the jet d'eau in the background. Too bad we are just entering winter ! (or is it just an impression?)

Yo Lex,

Welcome to Geneva!!!

You already have a few glocals friends waiting for you over here...(-:

What sort of places are you asking about: restos, or clubs, or pubs, or XXX clubs...give us some details, and we'll see what we can recommend...

The l'Usine/Artamis combo is about as un-posh as you can get.

Except it's closing down, isn't it?

[/quote]

Oh yeah, cheers! Go and put a dampener on things, why don't you!

Yeah, Artamis is closing malheureusement. But that just means she should go now, not put it off until next year. If I understand correctly -- and it's quite possible that I don't -- if the Glocals member that told me didn't lie to me -- l'Usine is a little more difficult to shut. The building is in pretty good shape; the only problem is the asbestos. So whoever takes it over has to pay to deal with that which doesn't make it so attractive. As such, it seems to be staying open, for the foreseeable at least. I like l'Usine a lot. It's great! If you don't mind asbestos. Really the asbestos is working in our favour. Asbestos is A-OK.

Ha, as far as getting cancer, that may be a little too NON posh for me.. somewhere in the middle.

I need a good bar, a place I can sit by myself and be entertained watching people but not so crowded I am out of place alone.  XXX clubs, might be fun too.. I only know american style ones, perhaps its time I branch out.

I am pretty open, just anywhere fun, where I can do things and not be stuck in the house everynight!

Hi Lex,

I would say:

To have a drink (or two): Scandal Bar (rue de Lausanne), FMR (rte de Frontenex) Le Calamar (the food is really good too, Bvd Carl Vogt), Qu'importe le parfum.... (Carouge), Etno Bar and Café Cuba (plainpalais), Alhambar (city center)....
The area around Carouge and the university-plainpalais are full with nice bars. Just have a walk and discover them.

Then to party, the best for me is La SIP. It's nor POSH, neither NON POSH. Just nice. You can have a drink downstairs too.

Wish you'll enjoy your new city!! :)

not posh...

Cafe des arts (rue de paquis) in the paquis is also ok, small-ish, has sofas, etc, open late + sundays (I think?) which is rare.

"Cinq portes" (also paquis - rue de Zurich, at the bottom) is nice - during the day its more like  a cafe and in the evening it does good food and is a sort of lively bar with food. Brunch on sundays (i think..) Good spacious wooden tables for a girl to sit, read, write, observe quite happily!

More studenty and always good for striking up spontaneous intellectual conversation is the sometimes smoky but somehow charming "Remor" tea room at the top of Plainpalais. Great home-made ice cream otherwise food is quite wierd there, also open late.

Hi all

I use to go to boulevard du vin ( 3 boulevard georges favon close to plain palais) alone and always meet new friends , thank you Dionysos for creating wine.

Totally posh but always very fun, the Platinum club on wednesday night : Ladies night, free entrance and free champagne for lady.

The thing is, whatever the place if you re with the good person, it s always very fun and I am sure that you will meet sympathic glocalers to go out and enjoy Geneva.

Regard
