If you can wait a couple of weeks and afford about 1200 sf, then wait for the new sensation in cell phone technology: Samsung Innov8, (i8510).

Google it!

You can also check for the Brand "HTC".

I bought the HTC Touch Cruise P3650 a few months ago at FNAC in Balexert. Standard you will find in stores mostly phones with French and rarely German software. At FNAC the can order phones with English software. You pay around 15% in advance and rest when you get the phone. I paid 950 CHF for mine but I believe price is down to +- 800 CHF now.

It has WIFI and GPS integrated. As it has Windows Mobile you can install TomTom navigation system on it. I bought it with 4GB memory card and I can basically put whole Europe on it. Its very easy to install TomTom on it for free ;)

Full multimedia experience with the large 2.8-inch touch screen

Revolutionary TouchFLO™ touch-screen technology that allows finger-touch scrolling, panning, and photo zooming

Innovative 3D Touch Cube interface for quick and easy navigation

Worldwide connectivity (3G and GPRS/EDGE/GSM)

Windows Mobile® 6 Professional with Direct Push Outlook® e-mail

Live HTC Home™ featuring time and weather display, quick launcher, and one-touch ring tone settings

3 megapixel camera with auto-focus for shooting photos/videos and a second camera for video calls or self-portraits

Built-in turn-by-turn GPS navigation with TomTom® software offers you a full navigation experience

Entertainment features including an FM radio, MP3 player, and video playback

Have been living with my new HTC Touch Diamond for a few days now and I recommend that as well. About 650CHF online and has everything (and more) you could ever wish for.

It's also beautiful (an HTC's first).

Do you need a Swiss passport to get a phone?  I am an American living in France.  Less than 20 meters from the border so I would like to get a Swiss phone subscription.  I read that a pre-paid SIM card rquires a Swiss passport.  Is that true for a subscription too?  Thanks!

The pre-paid plans (lots of good ones) just need valid ID. This means that they will take a copy of your passport (fighting terror and all that stuff) so they know who the phone belongs to. Anyone can get a Swiss pre-paid phone.

Not sure how it works for a regular mobile plan if you are living in France. Someone else might be in the same situation and be able to answer the question. The other option might be to have the invoice sent to the office.

Hi everybody, thanks for your answers, but what I really wanted to know is if there is here in Switzerland ah phone that I can use without paying (sunrise swisscom or orange) through WIFI, I met somebody who had one. She could call anybody for free when she was linked to a wifi.

Thanks again!

At the moment non of the swiss operators (Swisscom, Orange or Sunrise) offers a VoIP service via WLAN. Even there would be such service the calls are not free.

You can install the Fring application (www.fring.com) to certain WiFi mobile phones like the Nokia S60 series. The E51 is e.g. such a phone.

The fring application supports skype, ICQ, MSM and Yahoo plus some others more. With fring it is possible to make a skype call via WiFi free of charge to an other skype user.

You can have a look to the fring homepage for more information.

You have to select a access point that would be used by fring with the option change connection or the program might have asked you during installation for a access point.

You could use GPRS access point perhaps called internet or something like this or for free calls using a WiFi access you should select your home access point for WLAN.

In the menu settings/configure services you can add the messengers you use and after you logged on you should see your messenger contacts in a list.

These contacts can be called than. Just make sure that you are connected via WiFi. If you are connected via GPRS, can be seen with a symbol of 2 arrows under the 3G icon on the left side. In this case you are charged for packet data.

If you have a WiFi access it can be seen on the upper right side with 4 dots that build a square. If the WiFi access point is protected you see a closed lock and the 4 dots.

Hope this helps...
