Workshop / community space for wood working

Hi all,

I'm new in town and was am trying to find a community workspace or lab in Geneva that has equipment, machines and tools to allow the public to come and work on their own projects (with membership fee etc presumably). Does anyone know if Geneva has something like this?

Thanks in advance,

G

Hi Gurleen

There is no workshop in Geneva that I know which offers open access to their facilities machines. Insurance in case of accidents being one reason (amongst others) that profesional workshops wouldn't offer this.

Your closest option is a woodworking class through the adult education centre in Geneva : Ifage. Their woodwork classes are run at the main carpentry school in Jonction which is spectacularly well equipped so you might be able to pay the modest fee for the course and work on your own project.

Ifage link : https://www.ifage.ch/offre/industrie/metiers-du-bois

The alternate is you ask for access to the machines at a carpentry firm like ours during a quiet period. However the machines could only be operated by a member of our staff so you would be paying the hourly rate of the carpenter allocated to you.

Regards

Sam

Hi Sam,

I thought insurance would be an issue, as well as safety standards. Where I lived previously we were able to purchase insurance separately and work at a community workshop in a renovated old warehouse.

Thanks for the tips. I'll definitely look up Ifage and see what they offer.

Unfortunately I'd want to design and style the wood myself so the carpenter option isn't right for me but appreciate the suggestion.

Cheers,

Gurleen
