This question comes up so much...your best options are:

1. Holmes Place (in center town). Pricy, but also very nice socially with a ton of exapts. We're workign to get a special GoL rate here, but this is not yet done. You can contact member doctor_d, who is their director and put some pressure on him...

2. Sylhoutte. Less pricy, but more 'sweaty' and less social. They have 12 centers in town.

3. California.

You can look each one up on google for more details. I personally go to Holmes.

Hi Shane

I work at Holmes Place and we are the best gym in town!
Let me know if you want to go down and meet the guys and get started. Everyone there speaks english, we are an english company, and mostly expat members.

see you soon!

Don't work for them , but a faithful member since 3 years. I Like everything, from the choice of classes to equipment, sauna/hammam, jacuzzi, friendly (english speaking) staff and working hours ( including sunday til 8 pm, unlike some others).

I have already referred some people there and they were not sorry!

There's a parking nearby that you can use, Mont blanc, and it's always nice to have a drink afterwards at Place du Molard:-)
If by tram or bus, there are stops nearby.

Monday and Tuesday evenings are more crowded than usual ( normally from 5 til 7:30-ish) but if you're like me, that won't be your prime time to go anyway...and they're open til 10 PM on work days.

By the way, Doctor D, my membership is up for renewal - any discounts planned:-)?

I've been members at three clubs- first Holmes, then Harmony, now Silhouette.

If you work in the city center, Holmes may be suitable. It's expensive and too busy during peak hours- waiting for equipment can be frustrating. Also, it's quite small. So unless you are into classes and don't need parking, look into it. Image seems more important than being a really good gym.

Harmony is in Balexert and is OK.

Silhouette has quite a few locations, some of which are much better than others, but the good ones are pretty big and have enough equipment that it doesn't get too crowded. I think it's the best deal over all.

I cannot stress enough that I would pay money not to go to Holmes Place. Ironically, they have continually attempted to charge me, following their fraudulent behaviour and terrible business ethic. They have little to no care for their clients and continually prove to be solely interested in making a profit. Their hidden funds are endless and the contracter I came across was easily the most dishonest person I have met yet in Geneva.

I only say this to spare you the potential financial stress Holmes Place will bring you. I have known, personally, 4 people who have gone through the same ordeal as me and knew someone who worked there for years who told me to avoid it at all costs.

Before making a descision, I strongly urge you to look at previous forums at Holmes Place.

I husband and I have two (2) corporate memberships for Silouette that we are selling (we are moving back to the US).  You would have to take over a 6 month contract but we will give you a deal!  It is not a scam...very common to do this here.   If you are interested, let me know.

I am a member of CrossFit GVA. CrossFit is so different from any other gym and better by far. I spent years going to run of the mill gyms and got no where fast. I have got further than ever before using their techniques and you are always coached 100% of the time. They're at the Rue de Lyon 55 and they offer a free introduction, a great bunch of people with a real community feel. Loads of options for memberships very flexible....Both run by two British guys.

Hope this helps?

Scott

I am looking for a central gym where one doesnt dress up to go there, no saunas, no frills, no juice bars, no polished glass walls and sparkly studios with the latest batuka type classes,  just somewhere to go and lift weights...nothing more

If it's scummy I dont care....!

Not at all interested in Holmes place or anywhere fancy with boy band music and 10m plasma screens...zzzz

any suggestions please?

thanks very much in advance
