Y'all be nice to Alex, he may turn out to be the next glocal star!

Alex, getting to know Geneva means getting to know a lot of places, activities and people.

And it's better to find a "date" or a "serious relationship" in a group of like-minded people. As Reka points out, there are dating sites but this is not one.

This is not facebook either. The idea is to actually create a liaison between international and Swiss people within a local community so you come here unknown and you make some great friends and even discover yourself a bit more.

You arrive, you see what's happening here and bit by bit, you contribute to it yourself. Tomorrow morning is the official end of summer, marked by the cows coming back down from the mountain pastures. If you live near a farmer, you'll note that the milk tastes differently in the winter. But soon it is time for hot chestnuts sold in the streets, for hot wine, for fondue and raclette, for the Escalade and cozy autumn restaurants, theatre, symphony, museums and hikes in vineyards. This is followed by the amazing ski season (don't waste a week-end in the city, unless you have a good reason).

Glocals is a global community of people in a certain locality (hence "glocals") who form the network of support in the form of forums, exchanges, meetings, activities, etcetera. They help each other adapt to a new place by discovering it together. The founders, Nir and Oded, have created a springboard for happiness and you create your own formula for finding that happiness.

It is not easy being alone in a foreign town, but you are not as alone as you think. Other people, especially in Geneva, would love to get to know you.

Contact Nir or Oded (site admin) to get set up properly and then look through the website and start contributing to it.

Best of luck and success with your studies.

Mary

Alex - your photo is now visible, but, as several people kindly mentioned, glocals is not a dating site so please don't try to use it as such.

Marmark gave a great description of what glocals is and what its for (thanks a lot Marmark) so feel free to enjoy it and maybe you'll end up meeting the love of your life at some activity or social event.

Thanks

Oded

@alex no worries. you'll find that most people on glocals are friendly, helpful and have excellent advice to give. One of the best aspects of glocals.

so, what is the first event you think you will attend?

You look good man, no doubt you will find love soon...

"New member drink" is a good way to start your "glocals" life.

Bienvenu à Genève, jeune homme.

- Click the button "Yes" and "RSVP for this Activity" on the orange box in the corner

- Go to the activity

- Talk to a nice girl

- Fall in love

Or just find a girl you hate then buy her a house.  Much faster that way.

just go to the largest attended events - typically those involving heavy drinking - plenty of girls like to drink though its going out of fashion

you can join an event simply by going to the venue at the right time...if its an undisclosed time or place you will probably need to RSVP so the organiser can send you the details

maybe you can join the Singles group on here...

Oct 4, 11 12:43

It's about a month I moved to Geneva from Zurich and my profile sounds like this:Activities 5 Upcoming  |  18 Past  |  10 Organized

I have 31 friends and about 150 messages. And the best part, I actually interracted with all these people and 95% actually met!!!!!

We went together to the same things or they joined the events I proposed or the Let's French Group I started. I KNOW ALMOST EVERYBODY ON THAT LIST LITERALLY.

I didn't plan to be that active, or ... it's not even active, but since I was not knowing anybody around I wanted to do stuff so I got to use glocals. now my glocals page is the record of almost everything I do. Like for example, I wanted to exercise my french, there were only some meet-ups for exchanges, like "my french for your english", spanish for french, mostly as mother tongue (mine is romanian, so I felt is not that what I am looking for). I just prefered a group that does french. So, I post this add to meetup, and guess what, I get about 20+ people showing up, and now we will have our 4th weekly meetup. Join us if interested, it's on every monday. Or maybe you could find a chinese-french tandem with someone...? Even myself I would be interested in that ...

glocals is the best thing ever invented since the wheel, you want to do something and you need the company? post it in things to do and you will have the wonderful experience to find company in persons sharing the exact same things as you do! Its the perfect matching people site, just it's not a dating site! Who knows, if you will post an event about organizing some ice fishing on Leman lake and the love of your life is the only person who actually showes up :d

I totally agree with Zonker. I really like Zurich (been there for 2 years) better than Geneva, as logistics aspects, but the people here they really make a difference!  it is like instantly finding the friends you didn't know they exist.

I really think Marmark's description about what glocals is, deserves to be highlighted somewhere where everyone can see it when they visit glocals...

Thank you Nir and Oded for all mentioned above :)

I have not read anywhere that:

a) the objective of the poster's dating is marriage

b) that the poster specified he is interested in girls

Just for the sake of inclusivity of all :)

Glocals might not be a dating website, well... officially at least... but I wonder how many people each single person has dated through Glocals.

Quite a lot. If you meet someone datable through Glocals you are not going to say "Oh we met through here and its not a dating site so we cannot go any further than friends"

Glocals enables you to meet people in a strange country. What you do with them after you meet them is up to you

Lights, loud music and alcohol attract serial daters... or even one night standers Innocent

I vote for small events, like 10-20 people, during week, so no crazyness in clubs etc
