Hi all,
I'm wondering if there are any bookstores in Geneva that sells cheap and second hand books in French, say something like the Strand in New York. I've got a list of a couple of dozen titles I'd like to find, and I'm not much willing to shell out the cash for Amazon + deal with all the customs etc. Any tip welcome, thanks!

The good place for finding second-hand books is on Plain Palais (the market does work on Saturdays, not sure about other days). One has to spend some time there in order to find smth (it's not well-ordered as in a book-store), however books are very cheap (say, usual price is 3-5 chf).

You can also visit the charity shops run by:
Caritas
Centre social protestant
Armée du Salut
Croix-Rouge
Watch out for fund-raising events hosted by local churches – these are usually posted on their street notice boards, also ‘Les fêtes du quartier’ which are held at various venues in the city during the summer.

I would just put up a list of your book requirements on here and see what happens...someone may have something and willing to part with it
