I'm trying to get a cell phone contract (24 months + a discounted phone) but so far Orange and Sunrise customer service have explicitly stated that they don't accept the carte de légitimation (CDL) for this purpose (they want permit B, C or G). I haven't checked Swisscom yet. I'm imagining all those civil servants around Geneva are not walking around using prepaid, so I'd appreciate if someone who has had success in this regard with just a CDL could share some tips.

I´m interrested to know more about this too.
But from my former experience, don´t go for that 24 month deal, it´s just way too long. Stick with one year deals...

They do accept CDL as a valid ID but it depends on the expiration. pomi76 is right, go for the 12mo contract.

I was able to get a 2 year contract with a CDL at Sunrise. I went to the shop in Rive, not sure if that made a difference.

I got a 24-month phone contract with coopmobile. They accepted my CDL which was only valid for one year.. But I explained to them that it would be renewed year on year.

I'm American and got a contract with Swisscom in 2008. I didn't even remember showing my CDL, but I must have. In any case, I signed up without any problems pretty quickly. I only got a 12-month contract.
