dealing with auto insurance

My parked car was hit and totaled by a drunk driver recently and I would like some/any information from people who dealt with insurance companies.

The car (2006) was paid for and in perfect working condition but when asked at the dealer it's worth 5,000 euros less than the replacement value.

I am waiting to hear how much my insurance company will offer me but it seems absolutely unfair I would have to spend any money out of pocket to replace the car I already had. I am unable to do much research as my French isn't the best, so I would really apprecate anyone who can send me some infomation.

Including where I may find the best used car.

Thanks.

Don't know about the insurance part, but we found a very good used car earlier this year on Autoscout24.ch, for a very reasonable price.

Come to think of it, if you run a search on Autoscout for your totalled car (year, mileage, options etc) you will get a good idea about the current value. That should have some relevance in your discussions with the insurance company I would think, or at the very least give you some concrete information about the real value.

Good luck,

They normally reimburse you at a reference value - most likely Eurotax:

http://www.eurotaxglass.ch/app/plugin_uc/_src/ident.php?sess=CHucn50aee29c9f9c26cd7dbd90fa20c4c1294266733&l=fr&UCvtype=10&h=www.eurotaxglass.ch&newsess=yes&prtid=&premium=0

You might have an option in your contract that they pay you a premium on top of that, they normally ask you if you want it when you sign the contract.

Good luck!
