different breed of gym?
Hi all, 1st post.

I've been using silhouette gym, does anyone know of any other smaller / private gyms that cater more for more powerlifting types, squat racks, dead lifts etc

silhouette is ok, but usually have to wait around for enough equipment to free up.

Maybe there isnt but worth a shot,

thanks all, mike

... if you're serious about your weight lifting. Huge cardio area, really nice locker rooms, but minuscule free weights area. Silhouette Eaux-Vives (31 Decembre) is pretty decent though.

Bests,

Mike

Hi, I too, am currently doing some comparative shopping for a gym in Geneve. I am looking for a good balance between serious weight training (both free weights and machines)cardio and wellness. Not interested in classes at all. I am currently living in Basel and it seems most gyms do not really focus on weight training. I expect to relocate sometime in September. Could someone please write a few comparative comments for Holmes Place, Harmony, California Fitness and Silhoutte? Regarding Silhouette, which locations are better than the others(equipment, facilities, proximity to the city)? Anything around Jardin Botanique? Many thanks

I been to silhouette eaux vives, seems the best one. currently training at the one near cornavin - its ok

I will avoid holmes place...

for theotheo, i was looking for some kinda rusty dungeon of a gym just geared towards lifting. dont think any of those exist here ;)

theres a silhouette on Rue de Vermont, should be the closest one to jardin boutanique

How much is the silhoutte gym membership? I take it the minimum contract is 1 year.

for serious weight training, I would suggest American Fitness in Acacias.  Deffo not a place for the non-French speaker, but it's the official gym of the Servette hockey team. They don't offer a lot of classes, the focus is very much on free weights and machines.

It's extremely good value for money, too.  The gym is across from Aligro at the bus stop Queue D'Arve.
