fingerpriting
Hey Everyone,

I got a job in the U.S. for next year but I need to send in fingerprints to be cleared of my background. Does anyone know if this is done at the police station? Or anywhere specific? I live in Lausanne, so somewhere near here would be great. Thanks!

If your job is with the government, I'd suggest going to your embassy/consulate.

If not. I'd suggest to your future employer to do the check when you're back in the States.

In Europe, nobody cares for fingerprints (except the government, lately). And nobody except the government is usually equipped to handle them.

And I think it might even be that nobody except the government might actually be allowed to handle biometric data (I admit I'm not so sure about that).

Hello,

I live in Lausanne and had my finger prints taken as I needed them in order to provide the US requested criminal background report which is necessary in order to obtain a work and residency permit in Switzerland.

One has to go to the 'police cantonale' and one has to make an appointment before being printed. In addition, you will have to pay to have the prints taken (approximately 80 CHF). Local police stations do not take fingerprints.

Liz,

When you go to have your prints done (see Legalkitty's post), I suggest that you take along your permit and your US passport in addition to the letter from the employer. They might ask for one of these items as proof of who you are.

The Cantonal police station is at the Blécherette exit of the highway (the side away from the lake). It is a big grey building. You can't miss it as it is the only one in the area.
