cant your GP help?....
don't have one here. only see a doctor if i'm super sick or incapacitated in some way (not at night obviously- that is self imposed so don't need a doc there :P ).
i assume thats a good place to start, but just wanted to know if anyone here had specific experience on how to go about it as would prob be faster.

well, unlike the UK GPs most good doctors surgeries here can do alot of that testing onsite in their own labs. if they cant they send the blood samples off and youll know in a week.
I suggest you find a decent local GP, free to register, and ask for the tests, itll cost probably a couple of hundred francs, but then you'll know for sure
bon chance

It could just be food poisoning unless of course it has happened several times. I understand that prawns can go bad and you could have a dish where just one prawn was 'off' . I am not a doctor but if you really have an allergy problem you could always test it by eating just one or two prawns from somebody elses plate and if they are OK and you are not, then maybe you do have an allergy. A suitable chat up line for the next pretty girl you meet could be: can I invite you to a fish restaurant and treat you to a dish of prawn .... and then we can go for a coffee in casualty. If after that you are OK and she is not you might have some explaining to day but at least you will know you hhave no allergy

interesting idea. surprise date night- i might be fine and end up wining and dining you, or... i might have a prawn and be sick all over you! could be a new glocals activity to try out! ;)
i've had it a few times already so am no longer chancing it, as it usually involves everything i've eaten since i was 4 years old coming back out into the big wide world, but just want confirmation and to see if anything else can cause it too. luckily i'm only doing at weddings for now which is a great way to spend such a happy occasion but would like to stop this trend for once and for all! could be a new chat up line for lynsey though: "hi, have you had prawns tonight? No?! Cool that means i can kiss you then!"

Then I would not try my strategy and might be wise to avoid shell fish as well. Could also be that the prawns are contaminated by polltants in the sea (mercury, oil, human excrement). There are allergy doctors around but it is very difficult to pinpoint exactly what is wrong but the uinsurance should pay for the visits. Simplest is that if it is only prawns then do not touch them. The date will be much happier as she will be able to finish the full plate of prawns without you getting your paws on the two biggest ones
