Since we're moving to a new apartment, I'm wondering if there's a place where I can drop off big pieces of garbage (broken chair, broken printer, some pieces of wood ...).

If you call the number below, they will pick up. They can also tell you where you can drop it off.

Or you can cheat and ask the concierge to call for you or wait until a neighbour has dumped stuff outside and add to it. Normally the neighbour will have called the voirie. Whether this is correct procedure I do not know but it both ecological and logical. Why call them out twice to the same area.
Most of it anyway is picked up by the unofficial collectors before the voirie gets there

Thanks. I've never seen our congierge and I can't wait for a neighbour to call so I guess I'll call them myself on Monday.

Well, they will tell you where to place your things when you call. It's a fairly efficient service. It's true that there are lots of unofficial collectors, especially in the nicer neighborhoods.
This Monday is a good time to call as it is near the end of the month.

Hi,
you can take them to any of these places,
http://etat.geneve.ch/dt/dechets/a_votre_service-espaces_recuperation_cantonaux_esrec-7963.html
there's two of them (in Bernex and in la Praille) that are open on Sundays.
When you get there you will see lots of different containers where you can very simply dump different kinds of garbage..

Thanks. That's what I needed; will drop the stuff off today.
