gardener seeks plot in France

Hello, I'd like to grow a vegetable garden this summer but don't have any space. Would love to rent out a plot of 1.2 x 1.2 or 2.4 m for growing tomatoes, lettuces, etc.

I live in Saint Genis Pouilly, so the closer to home the better - but I'd be able to bike over as far as Meyrin, or out 5 km from St. Genis -

Also, I know there are allotments in Geneva, does anyone know if there are anything like that in the rural countryside of France?

Thanks

Brittany

Hi Brittany,

I am also looking for a place to grow some vegetables - my balcony is not ideal but so far my only solution.

Maybe there is someone out there who would be ready to rent 2 or 3 square meters in the area of Perly/Archamps/St. Julien? If so, please send me an email.

I wish you good luck to find a place!

Hi Just_me ,

I'll let you know if anyone suggests a plot in that area, as it's probably too far for me to cycle most days of the week.

Great to hear other people share this interest!

Good luck!

Plenty of city halls in France offers plots to grow potager. Go to your  city hall and ask if you can have some. I am sure there is one "veg garden", you can kinda rent a plot fir as long as you want totake care of it, and you only pay for use of water, and a little extra (dunni, fence, renting a tractor in the spring etc). In Chevry, which is next door, we are scheduled to pay approx 100 euro per 50m2 per year. Depending on size and town. The only thing is, you have to actually live in community.

Hope that helps.

To the best of my knowledge, there is a long waiting-list for allotmentsin Geneva.  It’s said that you have to wait until someone gives up gardening or dies and no one else in the family wants to take over the plot before you stand a chance.

What you could perhaps do is visit a few plots and get chatting to the lucky renters to see if one of them would be interested in letting you share their space.

Good luck!
