Maybe it's bugging you because most people are not pronouncing it the way it was intended

It seems that even outside Geneva, people are now pronouncing it g-locals, which doesn't make sense. (But we'll get no feed-back from people outside Geneva, since this thread is in the Geneva-local forum.)
