I've rented a houseboat when staying in Amsterdam. They are unlikely to entertain a one night stay but if you're planning to stay several days it's a great alternative...especially inexpensive if you're splitting the cost.

I can personally recommend B033.

Perfect location on the Amstel, easy to walk to downtown, gorgeous little boat that can sleep 3 or 4 people. Mind you, whoever gets the 2nd bedroom down below might be miffed after they see the main bedroom.

I stayed in the Nova hotel back in October. I booked a single and was given a massive room with four beds in it! www.hotels.nl is where I found it

It is central and respectable.  Depending on the date you book you can pick up a single for 69, a double for 79 and a triple for 109.  Breakfast is included.

I think this is very reasonable for a three star in central Amsterdam:)  It's not far from the central station.

I was in Amsterdam last week, and stayed at a B&B called 'Sunhead of 1617'.

Its a nice place, the owner is extremely nice, and the location is great (Sigel Canal)

It cost me 100 Euros per night for a double room (Red Tulip Room) or 120 with breakfast.

Only problem was the scary staircase, but I understand that scary stairs are the norm for older buildings in Amsterdam.

Thanks again for the replies, and have a great time in Amsterdam.

Thanks everyone for all your posts. I went to the website suggested by dmk and I booked Blue Square Hotel, for 148 euros for 2 nights. I hope it will be good.

Thanks a lot!

I'm going this weekend:-)
