importing UK vegetables in handluggage

Hello glocals,

bit of a silly question, but I'm thinking of asking a friend who's visiting in March to bring me a bag of parsnips from the UK.... they are ridiculously hard to find here and super expensive (6-8CHF a kilo) compared to UK prices, which in winter is less than 2GBP for a massive bag.

Does anyone know if there are restrictions on bringing in UK vegetables when flying into Geneva? And is storing it in Handluggage okay, or would it need to be checked in?

Thanks,

A

I am currently imagining what a terroristic attack with parsnips could look like...Laughing

I guess hand luggage should be OK.

Whether it is OK (or rather how much it costs) to import vegetables to Switzerland, depends on the type of vegetable and the time of the year afaik. Better check before paying an insane amount of customs.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. I've had people come across with bacon and all sorts. My last trip to london was for a family get together and my suitcase was half full of tupperware holding iranian food. Plus too many times i've made it through with liquids etc over 100ml...

worse comes to worse, you can toss the £2 bag

I buy parsnips in Intermarche (cheap-ish) or Botanics or Satoris (organic, so rather expensive). So in emergency you can look for it in France.

You need to run through old Monty Python films. I think parsnips are OK but not bananas

Ironically enough, we brought back a bag of parsnips when returning through Geneva Airport after Christmas [amongst other items to consume here]. Absolutely no problems so your friend should be quite safe. We did not declare them as we did not feel it necessary. It would perhaps have sounded strange to the customs officers in any caseEmbarassed
