I'd like to do a full medical checkup (just a regular thing every couple of years) - lung X-ray, blood tests etc - and I'm wondering whether there's a place where they do it in Geneva for a reasonable price. My supplementary insurance pays me up to CHF500 for that sort of thing per year, whereas the clinics that I've rung up quoted me prices of CHf2,000+. Any ideas or experiences? Maybe HUG or La Tour?

Your insurance will probably work best if you go to a GP for a consultation and have him/her arrange any necessary tests. You can always ask what these will cost and whether they will be reimbursed by your insurance before deciding to go ahead or not.
In any case, it is always useful to have a GP you can call on for any other reason in the future, but there’s no obligation to stay with the practitioner if you’re not happy with his/her advice/apprpach, etc.
As for “La Tour”, that’s just about the most expensive option in Geneva.

If your insurence will accept doing it in France, go there (Ferney , for instance), it's at least 5-6 times cheaper.

Agreed, but be sure to check with your Swiss insurance first.
And be aware that if you later consult a Swiss doctor for any reason, the very same tests may well have to be re-run in CH.
It’s a worldwide practice that medics always prefer to work with institutions and colleagues they know. It’s something of an old boys’/gals’ network.

I think you need to be a little smart .. If you buy a fancy packaged "all in one health check" it's highly unlikey that insurance will pay for it, it's an unneccessary luxury.. However if you get all the component parts from your GP or other specialist.. Then insurance will pay. Minus your deductable of course :)
