Hi, I would suggest the following steps (you prob did a number of these):

-Try another cable, and another power socket that you checked powers another device ok

-Hard reboot of the Surface (press and hold the volume-up button and the power button at the same time 30 seconds)

-Check the MS Surface site as to your options as at this point it looks like you'll need hardware support

thank you so much Francois for your information

i have noticed that the battery can still be charged, but it takes extremely long time, a few days to reach 100%.

i will defininitely try your above solutions.

Meanwhile, I wonder how people manage to repair the computers / phones in Geneva, if there is a center somewhere?

Hi Jessica,

If the solutions above don't help you will need the hardware looked into. Having your computer repaired in a shop though might void your warranty with Microsoft.

You have 2 main paths: either go with the Microsoft process and check your warranty on the site, call them or mail them to arrange for the tablet to be probably sent to them and wait for a replacement back or for the tablet to be repaired. Terms would depend on the status of the warranty. I would probably count 10 days for this process in normal circumstances, so during covid and the holidays it would likely be longer. It's cumbersome and when I was working in IT support it was a reason I didnt like these devices, we would need to have spares to transfer data to and give lend users, as going without a laptop for this lapse of time is just not workable. I would still start here though as they might have improved this process.

Otherwise you would look for a shop in Geneva to turn to. I dont have direct experience of these but I would look for well rated shops doing general IT and who speaks English. Here's an example:

 Good luck :)
